As we’ve talked about before, consumers are leaning on their smartphones more and more to compare product prices, read reviews, and collect information–all while in-store. Retailers are taking note of this growing opportunity to reach their customers, so it’s no surprise things are moving rapidly in this direction. The latest innovation, according to The Sacramento Bee, is a new software platform called ViVOtouch, which will allow retailers to deliver personalized content, offers, and loyalty programs to customers in real-time. If you have a NFC (near field communication) capable mobile device, then you’ll be privy to this new mobile marketing platform that is ready to take center stage.
Activated by a simple tap or wave of a phone upon entrance into a store, shoppers will receive current promotions, offers, and rewards right on their mobile devices. If you don’t feel like pulling a ‘Harry Potter’ and waving your phone, the software can also be activated using QR scan codes, SMS short code, cellular or Wi-Fi triangulation, or website opt-in. Merchants, mall operators, coupon issuers and service providers will be able to direct their promotions based on the customer’s profile, location, and interests.
The biggest piece of news here is the ability for retailers to feed shoppers information in real-time. Offers and promotions that might not show up in a newspaper ad or email inbox may now be available simply by walking through their front door.
